Travel Benefits for students traveling in USA

Updated: Dec 11, 2024

In the USA, while there isn't a centralized national student travel program like some countries have, there are still several travel benefits and options available to students:

  1. Discounted Public Transportation: Many cities and regions offer discounted fares for students on buses, subways, and other public transportation systems. These discounts vary by location, so students should check with local transit authorities or their university for details.

  2. Student Airfare Discounts: Several airlines offer discounted fares specifically for students traveling within the USA or internationally. These discounts can often be accessed through student travel agencies or directly from the airline's website.

  3. Rail Travel Discounts: Amtrak, the national passenger rail service, offers various discounts and promotions for students. Discounts can be accessed through the Amtrak website or by presenting a valid student ID at ticket counters.

  4. Car Rentals: Some car rental companies offer special rates and discounts for students aged 18 and older. Students may need to provide proof of enrollment and/or a student ID to access these discounts.

  5. Student Travel Agencies: There are specialized travel agencies that cater to student travelers, offering discounted packages, group travel options, and advice on budget-friendly travel within the USA and abroad.

  6. International Student ID Card (ISIC): While primarily used for international travel, an ISIC card may also provide discounts at select locations within the USA, such as museums, attractions, and restaurants. It's worth checking local listings for participating venues.

  7. Campus Resources: Many universities have travel offices or student organizations that provide information on travel opportunities, discounts, and resources for students planning trips within the USA or abroad.

  8. Educational and Cultural Travel Opportunities: Universities and student organizations often organize educational trips, study abroad programs, and cultural exchanges within the USA. These programs can provide valuable travel experiences and learning opportunities.

While the USA may not have as extensive a network of national student travel benefits as some other countries, students can still take advantage of various discounts and resources to make their travel experiences more affordable and enjoyable.
